A Hummingbird and More
I photographed a hummingbird yesterday, a lifetime first for me. Here’s how it went down:
I had just stepped out of the car on the causeway that carries Stolte Road in the Fish Lake Wildlife Area near Grantsburg, Wisconsin. I saw a big clump of red columbines. Then I noticed movement among the flowers. I didn’t know what I was seeing; perhaps a Hummingbird Moth. No, it was a Ruby-throated Hummingbird. I started shooting. Fortunately, my shutter speed was 1/4000 second, fast enough to freeze the hummingbird. The bird eventually perched, and I got more shots. The photos aren’t great, but I’m pleased with them. They document (for my memory, if nothing else) that I did indeed shoot a hummingbird.
I also posted below other shots from the past week.
