"Something Will Turn Up” is a phrase often spoken by Mr. Micawber, a character from one of my favorite novels, David Copperfield. Micawber is always optimistic in spite of the difficulties he faces constantly, avoiding debt collectors and ending up in debtor’s prison. Something does turn up for him, and he eventually succeeds.

I try to adopt such an optimistic approach.

I am an enthusiastic, amateur photographer. I’m also an insomniac. One night while lying in bed hoping to fall asleep, I brainstormed about why I spend so much time, effort, and money on photography. Photography satisfies my creative urges.  I can create a photo, a photo book, a video slideshow set to music, or a blog post. Photography gets me outside and combines perfectly with walking, hiking, and driving the backroads.  When searching for subjects, I can be completely alone in the forests or prairies. I sometimes find myself in areas where I can hear nothing but the sounds of nature.  No sounds of man or his machines - hard to find; mostly during winter and in the north woods.

Reading extensively and listening to music are two of my other passions. They and my photography provide the subject matter for my blog.
