Mushrooms, Cranes, a Storm, the Sunset

I went out Saturday in search of mushrooms. The only ones I found were dried and shriveled up. I turned to other subjects that were fortunately abundant. The fall migration of sandhill cranes is in full swing. I’ve never seen so many cranes as I did on Saturday. Twice, the flocks I watched took off simultaneously for no obvious reason. What a clamor with the constant, loud squawking; each bird contributing with their distinctive, rusty-hinge-sounding calls. There was also a small storm with dark, sulking clouds.

On the way home, I almost missed the sunset. I’m unsure what made me stop and leave my car. I may have seen the display through the rearview mirror. I did step out and was floored. What a display! In such times, I’m glad to be alive and ticking. Oh happy day! Joy to the world! Did I mention that I also managed to squeeze in 10,000 steps and take 2,000 photos trying to capture birds in flight, not to mention a bit of autumn color?
