Uncommon and Declining
This is an American Bittern that my field guide says is uncommon and declining. It was only the second one I’ve ever seen. The guide also says that it, when “alarmed, freezes with bill pointing up.” This bird eventually slunk off. It pivoted its still-outstretched body until it was parallel to the ground and then slowly walked away.
Other shots from the week past including a sleeping swan.

“To exist is to change,
To change is to mature,
To mature is to go on
Creating oneself endlessly.”
