Winter Sunset

I went out last week to shoot in snow showers that were predicted for the Crex Meadows State Wildlife Area. I expected there would be no sunset due to the complete overcast. MySunset said there was only a 25% chance of a photogenic sunset.

Fifteen minutes before sunset at 5:00 PM, my attention was grabbed by a bright streak of orange showing through the trees. I quickly jogged to my car. I knew a good spot to shoot the sunset only five minutes away. When I arrived, the clouds were breaking up and the sun was almost on the horizon. I got my tripod set up just in time.

Those five minutes changed my day from one of OK photography to one of dramatic photography.
