Wild Still Lifes
Once upon a time, I photographed still lifes in my kitchen-table studio. I eventually gave up. I’d rather be outside. I don’t like collecting objects for still lifes. And I don’t have the patience to compose a good still life.
A Wild Portrait
Instead, I thought of photographing what I call wild still lifes. The above objections disappear when I shoot wild still lifes. I’ve been trying out this idea for a month. The images below are the closest I’ve come to success. I take a composition as I find it; I don't rearrange it or add to the composition. I keep deletions to a minimum; only long, thin objects like blades of grass that can be distracting in close-ups.
To the right is a photo I don’t consider a still life. You might call it a wild portrait.
