The protagonist in Cormac McCarthy’s novel “The Passenger says “that God’s goodness appeared in strange places. Don’t close your eyes.” I’ve taken the quote out of context* and applied it to photography. A photographer—and this may be his or her most essential skill—has to move through the world with eyes wide open.

I see more when I have a camera. I see more, and I see more clearly. Yesterday morning, I saw a wet, fallen leaf on blacktop after a night-long rain. Then I saw another one; then an interesting ground of leaves. I felt a bit foolish squatting in the middle of the road taking pictures, but I continued. Here are the results.
