Favorite Songs Heard In 2024
Here are some of the songs I first heard in 2024; the ones I liked best. They weren’t necessarily released in 2024; some are considerably older.
Thinking Out Loud. Chantal Chamberland sings an Ed Sheeran song. Chamberland is a French-Canadian singer and guitarist. This song of sweet melancholy is a simple arrangement with just guitar and singing.
Beyond the Sea. Beyond the Sea is the English version of the song La Mer written in French By Charles Trenet (see below.) Jill Barber sings this version. Both versions—English and French— are old favorites. Bobby Darin popularized the song in the United States in 1959.
La Mer Luca Aquino. Aquino plays the trumpet. Lucio Dalla sings. Chamberland also does La Mer
To Survive. Bondex.
One Last Dance. Baby Rose. Reminds me of soul music from the 1960s.
Blue Car. Greg Brown. I first heard this folk singer and great lyricist on the Morning Show on Minnesota Public Radio in the 1990s when on my way to work .
Redemption Song. Macy Gray performing a Bob Marley song
Huapango de Moncayo. Performed by Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, a group formed in 1897 that now calls itself The Best Mariachi In the World. Written by Mexican composer José Pablo Moncayo García and first performed in 1941. Huapango is a type of Mexican dance.
Moon & Stars. The Mavericks with Sierra Ferrell. The Mavericks are one of my favorite groups. The addition of Sierra Ferrell makes this a great song. There is an interesting documentary about the making of Moon & Stars.
Juju. Random Rab’s remix of Juju by Ryan Herr and Jesse Hendricks
Costas De Coral. Salomón Beda
I’m Wandering. Kristina Train. A good song first performed by Aretha Franklin in 1962. The video includes both the Kristina Train version and Aretha’s original.
