Close Encounter With an Otter

Inquisitive Otter

I recently encountered an otter, or perhaps I should say the otter encountered me. The otter was curious, wanting to figure out what I was. I’ve rarely been looked at so closely. If I were looked at in the same way, I would ask the person looking “What are you looking at?” The otter was partially concealed by the buttress of a culvert under a dirt road that ran close by a lake. He or she kept looking at me, then ducking back behind the culvert; the looking at me and ducking back and so on.

It eventually got tired of me, slid into the lake, swam away, and dove; a sequence show in the photos below.
