Jim Falls dam on the Chippewa River

We’ve had a lot of rain lately, and all the rivers are flooding. The flooding on the St. Croix River could become one of the top-ten floods on record if it rains in the next few days.

I went to the Jim Falls Dam on the Chippewa River yesterday. I thought with all the rain and flooding, all the spillways would be open and the water would be raging out. This is something I’ve wanted to see and photograph for years. Alas, it was not to be. The dam looked as usual with only one spillway open.

The trip was not wasted. The skies all day were dramatic. By early evening, I was exhausted from photographing so many shots of the skies. I couldn’t do anymore.

By coincidence, I shot three photos that show one-point perspective (aka, vanishing-point perspective.) I didn’t plan on doing so and didn’t realize I had until I got home. The first three photos below are those with one-point perspective.
